Krispy Kreme

As someone who is passionate about nutrition, it is partly with shame that I admit that I love Krispy Kreme doughnuts. My absolute favorite flavor is Caramel Kreme Crunch, a freshly baked doughnut filled with gooey caramel sauce and topped with melt-in-your-mouth chocolate icing and crunchy toffee pieces. It is absolutely the most delicious doughnut I have ever had. I like that Krispy Kreme has a drive-thru, but I never use it for two reasons. First, if I am going to be indulging in doughnuts, the least I can do is walk into the store and at least burn a few extra calories. Second, I love the self-guided tour and the free "samples" in the store. The tour allos you to walk along the production line and see how the classic glazed doughnut is made, starting with the rising of the dough. If you go in when the "Hot Doughnuts Now" sign is lit, your tour ends with a free, hot glazed doughnut. If you have never eaten a hot glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut, be forewarned that they are lighter than air, melt in your mouth, and leave you wanting more. Back to my love for nutrition as well, Krispy Kreme did just come out with a whole wheat glazed dought, which I was able to sample during my most recent trip. It is not bad. Whole wheat tends to make baked goods more dry in texture, but Krispy Kreme has found a way to keep the doughnuts moist and tasty. They are not the same as the original glazed doughnuts, but pretty good considering they have more fiber than the original. I love Krispy Kreme.
